Another area of activity for the Deutsche Chirurgiestiftung is providing care for underprivileged children from Germany and abroad. In order to enable Istvan from the former CIS states to undergo the necessary reconstructive surgery and thus lead a normal life like Emely, the Deutsche Chirurgiestiftung supports the performance of such operations in Germany and abroad..
Like Emely, Istvan was born with a double cleft lip and palate, which has already been surgically repaired in Emely's case.
Congress in Khon Kaen
At the invitation of Khon Kaen University, Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. U. Joos attended a conference held by the Faculty of Dentistry at this Thai university as a visiting professor from 16 to 18 November 2015. The topic of his lecture was ‘Management of cleft lip and palate’.
The target audience for the congress was qualified dentists, prospective dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and staff from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the Faculty of Dentistry at Khon Kaen University.
In the course of this lecture, the participants' efforts focused not only on theory, but also on an unplanned practical demonstration.
Prof. Joos demonstrated in a free operating theatre how the components of his lecture are implemented in practice. As not all participants could be accommodated directly in the operating theatre, a live broadcast was set up in a seminar room. This allowed the other participants to watch Prof. Joos' techniques directly.
